Respect in the Modern World

Respect?  A word that was very well-known by our ancestors, not even known, but it was practiced a lot by them in their time unlike us who do not seem to recognize the importance of this huge word.

In the old era, a son did not listen music in front of his elders especially parents, but in present we do. In the old era, a son did not even dare to smoke in front of his parents but in present we do. In the old era, a child did not use abusive language in front of their parents, but in present we do. In the old era, not even a single old age house was established, but in present they are, in fact every town has one.

“If we lose love and self-respect for each other, this is how we finally die”–Maya Angelou

If we turn our minds towards this totally ignored issue of the present day and wonder why are the above mentioned things happening? The answer to this question is a single word ‘Respect’. If a child is educated but is missing respect, there is no use of such education.  A child behaves according to the environment in which they are brought up. No matter how greater or influential the environment is, if it’s missing respect, it is useless. The child is not in safe hands and they will be a huge threat to their related circle in future. A child returns to the society what he has been taught, or the thing he has observed in his surrounding.  Thus if the output is not good s the fault it reflects that the fault lies within ourselves, we are the ones responsible for them.

Today’s children listen to music in front of their elders with volumes up, dance, and feel no shame in watching uncensored movies. This happens because of our ignorance and extra love that destroys a child, and in my opinion is the biggest reason.

“I’m not concerned with your liking or disliking me… All I ask is that you respect me as a human being—Jackie Robinson”

It is our great responsibility to bring up a child. They have got a brand new hard-disk in the form of their brains. They will operate with the programs which are installed in them. Respect can not be taught or given to a child unless they witness the give and take of respect on their own. Do your best, input them with the best you have, give them time, give them respect, give them importance, the output will be fruitful for you as well as for your related circle and obviously to your respected country.
