The Road to Euro 2012
Posted on 13th June 2012
The Euros are finally picking up steam, with results crucial in shaping up the final standings of the groups. Tuesday saw the Euros enter the second match day of its group stage, with the once mighty Czech Republic facing off against the resilient Greece and the efficient Russians taking on co hosts Poland. Going into the match ups, both Greece and Czech Republic knew that a defeat would all but eliminate them from the tournament following the results of Match day 1, whilst Russia knew that a win against Poland will seal their qualification into the quarter finals with a match to spare. As for co hosts Poland, the inspiration to do well against a stronger Russian contingent stemmed from the massive home support, as well as Ukraine’s 2-1 triumph over Sweden the other day. They were determined not to be outshone by their co hosts.
Russia will qualify with ease and live up to the dark horse tag that has been given to them, they are a good solid unit and can make it to the semi’s at least in my opinion. As for the other team to qualify, ill put my money on the hosts Poland, they’ll pull of an upset against the Czech.
