Water Fueled Car In Pakistan – A Stirring Debate
Will we be living a day, when we can put some water straight from the tap to run our cars? Will Nestle open its water-pump-station to supply better water for cars? The recent claim by Engineer Waqar Ahmed to run a car by normal water encapsulated in small water filter like tanks, attached with one battery and supplying unlimited fuel to hungry cars to run as much as it likes, caught everyone’s attention. And why not! It has disturbed the routine national debate from useless political shows to some serious science and technology debate.
Being an engineer, people approached me earlier to comment on this, and I cautiously denied the possibility as I had little knowledge about the mechanism and equipment used.
Enough has been said in recent days about the invention by Eng. Waqar, starting from immanent scientists like Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan and Dr. Atta-Ur-Rehman to less tech-savvy politicians like Minister for Science and Technology, Mir Changez Khan Jamali, and Religious Affairs Minister, Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah.
Now there are three main groups looking this so-called invention either as ‘remarkable’, ‘debatable’ and the last group agreed it as ‘rubbish’ and total waste of time. I am not going to form any opinion amongst these schools of thought, as I want to toss a totally different, yet a healthy outcome on this saga; A ‘debate’ related to science, engineering, technology and research in the main stream media of Pakistan. Yes a ‘debate’ that could give further direction to anything, whether it is sport, religion or science.
This is the sign of the society which is slowly and progressively moving towards, science and technology. Sooner or later the debate will reach to a more mature level. Today, we may be discussing something very basic; tomorrow we may honour Dr. Adbul Sallam about his contribution towards Higgs Boson. It should be noted with concern that at the time of Higgs Boson confirmation [4-July-2012], there was little to no media coverage in Pakistan. I got the chance to be a committee member for engineering master’s admission interviews, and to my surprise, none of the nearly 20 people were able to point-out, what is the recent huge development in Physics (obviously waiting to hear that the candidate knew about Higgs Boson discovery) I partially blame media for this, which reports all sort of unrelated news (including inane Bollywood gossip) and naively ignores the importance of science, and technology. Thus, I am happy that at least we are having an exchange of ideas on science, and technology in Pakistan, especially in main stream media.
This debate is inspiring the youth to look deeper into their conceptual knowledge, and ponder on the question – Is it possible to deviate from the fundamental basic laws of thermodynamics? Let the debate go on, with both positive and negative outlooks on this matter.
Eng. Waqar, you should be proud on stirring this scientific debate, whether or not you have a secret solution to run a car by water.
